1793 – Jesse Lee was assigned to organize Methodist Societies in the Province of Maine (still part of the State of Massachusetts)
1795 – Jesse Lee preached in Machias
1830 – Rev. J. Hall preached a sermon at East Machias
1832 – Rev. Moses P. Hill preached in East Machias
1836 – Rev. H.M. Macomber formed a Methodist class in Jacksonville (also called Upper Mills)
1837 – the Jacksonville class and the East Machias class became a “station”, supplied by Rev. Charles C. Cone
1848 – Machias andEast Machias made a “mission”
1849 – Machias “Society” begins to build a “meeting house”
1858 – land was given to the “station” to build a chapel
1859 – Jacksonville chapel was completed and dedicated
1860-1861 – a parsonage and stable were built; Rev. Caleb Ellis left to serve in the Civil War
1895 – the building was remodeled; a steeple, a belfry, and a new entrance were added
1897 – the church bell was rung from the belfry for the first time
1900-1935 – electric lights were installed and a furnace was put in
1924 – Jacksonville chapel joined with the Court Street Methodist Church to form a “charge”
1943 – the original seats were replaced by pews and a classroom was added
1946 – the first wedding ceremony performed at the Jacksonville chapel
1957 – an electric organ was purchased
1961 – Court Street Methodist Church destroyed by fire
1965 - property sold to build a new U.S. Post Office, and Machias parsonage deeded over to Jacksonville Methodist Church
1966– Jacksonville became part of a 3-point charge with Cutler and West Lubec; the first pastor of the new charge was Rev. Charles Dorchester.
1968 – The Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church unite to form the United Methodist Church
1999 – parking lot constructed at JUMC
2004 – kitchen, bathroom and fellowship hall added on at JUMC
2004 – West Lubec leaves the Downeast Charge
2005 – Cutler leaves the Downeast Charge; Jacksonville now a single church appointment
2006 – floor replaced in the sanctuary at UMC
2007 – Jacksonville UMC reduced to ¼ time appointment
